Mamas Don't let your Babies Grow up to be Cowboys

Today, January 16th, my grandfather turns 80.  We are talking about my funny, tough, hard working, forever young grandpa, right?  The man who walked me down the isle when I got married? The one who's T-shirts I always got to wear to bed when I got to sleep over at your house?  How can this be?

I know, everyone says these things about the passing of time but this really strikes me.  80.  Wow.

To celebrate, my Mom made the trek up to my house and we planned a surprise party.  To be honest, it was the first surprise party I've ever thrown.  For anyone.  And the best part is that he was actually surprised.  My uncles and cousin were there and we BBQ'd steaks and ate chocolate cake in honor of the big 80.

Birthdays are milestones not only to mark another year but they give me pause that time i passing so fast!  In honor of you, Grandpa... whenever I hear this song I'll always hear you whistling along.

A foodie who loves Foodzie

I love food.  All kinds of food and if you do too then you'll, hopefully, find this as lovely as I did!  To me, this may have been the BEST discovery/idea of 2011.  I wish I would have thought of it.  Yes, I'm that excited about it.  What is it, you ask?  Foodzie.com

What it is...a gourmet, small batch, artisan made food subscription box. OK, that probably sounded weird but follow me...  This company sources all of those little amazing cheese makers, salami crafters, confectionery wizards, Beef Jerky magicians, and they package them up into a tidy, and jam packed box and send them to you once a month.

My first box was filled with three different kinds of Beef Jerky all from very small producers who only use pasture grazed hormone/antibiotic free beef.  DELISH.  Seriously, it didn't last long.

My second box was filled with all of these amazing sweets that were perfectly packaged for stocking stuffing...Organic Blueberry Asci gummy bears, Ginger Sesame Carmel popcorn, real honest to goodness old fashioned butterscotch hard candy, Sea Salt Caramels made with Honey, Sun butter nut free/gluten free confections (sunflower butter cups, dark chocolate mint cups, Carmel cups, etc), Dark Chocolate Almond Florentines, Almond Brittle....  I didn't tell anyone when this box arrived and, while i had good intentions, I didn't give any of it away at Christmas in stockings.  I'm hording it.  If you would have gotten this box you'd totally understand.

The most intriguing box?  The bacon and bourbon box...positively jam packed with, well, bacon jam to name one item.  And Bourbon goodies too.  Yum.  Hopefully they send me that box.

I can either go in and pick what box I want them to send to me from their available selections or I can be surprised and have them pick a box for me.  I love the element of surprise.

The greatest part of all?  You are supporting small up and coming food artisans, bakers, ranchers, etc and you get to try new things that you may not be able to easily get in your area...all without leaving your home.  Each package includes info on where you can buy more of anything in the box should you be so inclined.

ENJOY!

...and a Looooong Jacket

Ok, so maybe not SUCH a long jacket but when I think jackets I think of that song by Cake 'Skirt and a Long Jacket'.  One thing that CAN be said about these newly listed jackets is....they are as much fun as listening to said Cake song, and they last longer!

I just listed them last night and already they are getting a lot of attention!  My next move may just be to make some of these in adult sizes.  They really are that awesome.

Raindrops keep falling on my blog

Something lovely about the rain?  Walking in it, in proper water shedding, comfortable, warm clothing.  Another lovely thing?  Rainbows - but that also requires sun, which is lovely in it's own right.

Below I give you my beloved raindrop collection (please don't confuse it with 'Rainbow Connection'.  In no way do I want to disappoint you with the lack of singing in this post).

Cute Kid's Bike Bag Tutorial!

I'm absolutely positive you are wondering just what I've been working on this week so... to answer this question I give you this lovely tutorial from the Noodlehead Blog -- The Bicycle Bucket Bag!

Here's my first (aka prototype) Bicycle Bag

First, please excuse the bad lighting.  It's a very gloomy day here in the Northwest.  Second, It's not perfect but it's together and sturdy and really does look nice.  I'm sure the next one will be SPOT ON.

I've got enough material cut for two more!  I can't wait to see the smiles when I give them to the kiddos.

This project is simple to make and very functional!  I found mine sturdy enough to carry anything my children could toss in it (waterbottles, lovies, rocks, magic wands (aka sticks), and flowers.  If you find yourself with some free time and a hankering for a sewing project I would highly recommend giving this one a shot!

I'm making them for three luckly little kids because springtime biking weather will be here before I know it, right?
